On the feast of Saint Monica, the Old Catholic community of Békés celebrated together

On August 27, on the feast of Saint Monica, the faithful gathered for a festive mass at the Old Catholic Chapel of Our Lady of the Hungarians in Békés. The mass was celebrated by Zsolt Szécsi, canon and local pastor.

The festive occasion held special significance for the community, as exactly two years ago, on August 24, 2024, the first mass was celebrated in Békés. Thus, on this day, they not only remembered Saint Monica but also celebrated the birthday of the Old Catholic community in Békés.

In his sermon, the local pastor spoke about the life of Saint Monica and her exemplary, steadfast faith, and also recalled the important events of the past two years, everything that shaped and strengthened the life of the community.

During the celebration, Sister Cili was also warmly greeted on the occasion of her name day, giving thanks for her service and the work she has done in the community.

Following the mass, the celebration continued with a communal agape thanks to the generosity of the faithful. The participants were offered stuffed cabbage, scones, cakes, and refreshments. The informal gathering provided a good opportunity for conversation and to rejoice together that for two years now they have been able to walk the path of the Old Catholic faith together in Békés.

The festive occasion was at once a thanksgiving for the journey traveled, a remembrance of the past two years, and a hopeful look toward the future of the community.
