“You give them something to eat!” (Mt 14:16)
Jesus is not speaking to the crowd, but to His disciples. He does not say: I will take care of it, but: “You give them something to eat!”
This mission is still ours today.
But what can we give? Not just bread. But a kind word, listening, hope, comfort, encouragement, faith. There are people who carry not the hunger of the body, but of the soul.
However, we often answer the same as the disciples: “We have nothing…” We have little time, little strength, little knowledge, little courage. We only have “five loaves and two fish.”
But Jesus does not ask how much we have. Instead, He says: “Bring them here!”
As long as the little is in our hands, it is truly little. But when we place it in Christ’s hands, it becomes a blessing for many.
Perhaps this is the essence of the Christian vocation: not to give from our abundance, but to entrust our little to Christ. Because He still feeds many today with what we lovingly place before Him.
