Jesus’ words are surprising at first hearing. After all, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding are gifts from God in themselves. It is not about God rejecting learned people or praising ignorance. It is much more about the fact that there are truths that cannot be grasped by reason alone.

The mysteries of faith are not exam questions. Those who understand God most deeply are not those who have read the most books, but those who approach Him with an open heart. The “little ones” are those who know they need God. Those who are not ashamed to admit: they do not know everything, they do not understand everything, but they trust.

Often it is precisely our own certainties, prejudices, and complacency that prevent us from hearing God’s voice. Whoever thinks they already know everything has nothing to be taught. But those who seek with humility will find new horizons opening before them.

In the gospel story, we see that Jesus is first understood by children, simple people, penitents, and the poor. Not because they are smarter than others, but because there is room for God in their hearts.

Perhaps for us the most important question is not how much we know about God, but how much we allow Him to come close to us. Because true wisdom does not begin with possessing answers, but with the humble recognition that God is always greater than our knowledge.
