“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
Mt 18:20

We tend to think that what is truly important requires many people. A large community, a full church, spectacular results. However, Jesus gives a completely different measure: two or three.

It is not the number that makes the community real. In a small chapel, at a family table, or even in the shared prayer of two people, Christ can be present just the same. He does not promise that He will be among us only when there are enough of us. He says: “I am there among them.”

This can be especially encouraging for communities that are few in number. Few does not necessarily mean little. If Christ is among us, then we no longer have to merely count how many we are.

Because the Church begins where people turn to each other in the name of Christ.
